(I will certainly not register a domain name for more than 10$ which don’t secure renewal prices, no certificates for free and no dedicated IP).
Now that we have decided which registrar to choose, let’s pass to the part of choosing the domain name and it’s extension. Why choosing a .com instead of a .net ? Choosing the extension may depend on the domain availability and of the subject and the core of your website. .Com domains are generally the choice of business and professional websites, also for personal websites and Blogs. This don’t affect your website, but it can just give a false indication for the visitor when for example seeing a .biz for a personal blog .. It don’t give any sense ! Anyway, choice of the extension can’t be a problem as you can choose it according to the nature of your website. Now, let’s go to the important part now, the choice of the Name !
1/- Length of the Name :
Choosing a big name may cause problems to visitors, not when visiting or being referred from other websites, but when talking about it ! You must know that the public takling about websites is the most effective marketing solution, and, in their place, will you remember such a big name ? A domain name have to not pass 12 characters of length and to be kept simple and easy to remember.
2/- Domain Name & Web Site Name :
The domain name have to be same as the website name, otherwise the visitor will feel like he got that page in error, that he has been automatically referred to that website and the content he is seeing is just an ad ! That appear to be illogic but it’s completely the opposite. You have to find the domain name (by checking it’s availability) and after that, attribute it to your website, so that your website name is same than the domain name.
3/- I want that Domain Name, but it’s unavailable !
Everybody know that there is millions of websites all over the Internet and anyone may already had the idea you have about your website name, but, if it’s unavailable, shall you let it down and change it ? Absolutely not ! In some cases, this may help you. Anyway, if you got the idea of “Help.com” domain name and it’s gone, you can register a domain name of 1st-help.com, or Ix-Help.com also JustHelp1.com … Adding a little word before or after the name you choose is a very good idea if your domain name is taken, and it will not affect the aspect of your domain name. This will even help you cause you will certainly find the other extensions (.com, .biz, .net …) for that domain name also available and you can register as much domain names with same name as you want ! Think about adding words after/before the name wisely or it will blow out the main idea !
4/- Other extensions .. Why ?
Certainly more important for SEO part than the aspect one. Many visitors like you and me may go wrong when typing the address and write an incorrect extension and right then you will loose a visitor, even many visitors. Registering other available domain names extensions may appear to be a wise decision even if it cost some additional fees (GoDaddy offer free domain names after 5 purchases) to keep your visitors in the correct address. After registering them, just make a 301 Permanent redirection (I will talk about this in a coming post) or make them simply Parked to your website.
5/- Conclusion :
Choosing the right domain name is also considered as the base of a successful website, it can change the kind of visitors you will receive, the traffic you will have and the success of your business. Keep thinking wise and don’t stop trying to find as much tips, coupons and advices, cause starting with the wrong name will make you finish with it !

Buying a domain name is far easier than deciding what niche to choose… I have the biggest problem with that, and then when I have my subject, the name just flows.
Also when I buy a domain name I always make sure it has the keywords in it…It always takes me to the top of the search engines…
